We have visited Kariba many times. It never fails to disappoint. We have stayed a number of times on the Abangane and have thoroughly enjoyed the fishing, the game viewing and the wonderful sunsets and sunrises, all of which are accompanied by superb meals and service from the crew. We leave with happy memories and wonderful photographs every time.
I've visited Kariba 4 times and been aboard the Abangane twice. The Abangane and its crew is excellent with great service, food and sleeping arrangements and the fishing is great as well. Sunsets, warm weather and amazing scenery - I will certainly go back and would recommend it for anyone looking to visit Lake Kariba for the first time or returning as seasoned fishing fanatic or lover of game viewing.
We have spent a number of family holidays on the Abangane. Absolute heaven for both adults and children! The openness of the houseboat allows one to feel part of the exquisite untouched surroundings, a feeling we so often miss in our busy lives. Never a dull moment for the children; and Obert, the captain, is also an incredible fishing teacher. We'd often wake up to the sun peeping over the horizon, the call of the fish eagle and the squeals of delight from the tender boat across the bay, where Obert would have the children in their elements hauling in the predawn catch. Frank, the chef, is an absolute blessing. He conjures up meals for 12 people with astounding finesse! And Josham quietly gets on with whatever needs doing, from making up beds, to cleaning out bathrooms, to packing cooler boxes for the evening booze cruise, ensuring a holiday of complete relaxation. Definitely a holiday to be recommended.
